Vision Statement

Adopted 2.27.24

The Coalition’s members are committed to building sustainability, equity, resiliency, and creative growth within the artist ecosystem in Massachusetts, and believe that this work can be more effectively advanced by participating in a state-wide hub focused around artist services. We aim to foster connection and collaboration in the following ways:

• Sharing new ideas and encouraging peer exchange and problem-solving through meetups that catalyze conversation about how to strengthen our work and our field;

• Offering practical tools and models through presentations by fellow practitioners, and engagement with emergent models outside our region such as the national “Creative Change Coalition” and “Artists Thrive” network;

• Identifying and addressing where and why there may be gaps in artist services, and developing effective approaches to sharing resources and programming opportunities that center justice and artists’ voices;

• Increasing public awareness of artist services provided by Coalition members and others through collective outreach efforts and amplification, to better fill gaps in the artist services ecosystem;

• Pursuing system and policy change through collaborative advocacy within the arts sector (to make our work better understood and better supported) in alliance with MASSCreative, and working alongside other sectors and movements striving to build stronger communities in Massachusetts.

To achieve these goals, we intend to approach our shared work with:

A Spirit of Collaboration: We seek and act from a place of mutual respect, trust, commitment, and reciprocity with all our partners. We share what we have, what we’ve learned, and our goal is to create welcoming and generous environments, both in person and virtual.

An Asset-based Lens: We have everything we need. We approach challenges as opportunities, and believe change is possible, and that change is possible from within.

(These community values are adopted from the Creative Change Coalition.)
